Daniek is committed to future-proof destinations, where all the beauty can be experienced by visitors and where tourism makes the largest possible positive contribution to the living and working environment for residents. The Knowledge Center contributes to this with the knowledge we develop. The combination of the Zeeland context and the national (CELTH) is a plus. Daniek is good at analyzing, eager to learn and finds it a challenge to delve into complex issues. She is positive-critical and always tries to improve the research. It has to fit well with the information needs of policy makers and the sector. Her integral view helps to make connections with other themes and domains that touch on tourism. Daniek's expertise lies mainly in visitor experience, social impact of tourism, vacation parks, spatial planning and cultural heritage.  +
Daniëlle has a varied background within the social domain, from government to implementation. After her studies in Liberal Arts and Sciences (Roosevelt Academy, Middelburg) and social education issues (Utrecht University), Daniëlle worked between 2012 and 2017 for municipalities in Noord-Holland and Zeeland as a policy advisor and project leader within the social domain. In 2017, she made the switch to education and joined the Social Work program at HZ University of Applied Sciences as a teacher and graduation coach. She taught a variety of subjects, supervised graduate research, coached a graduating class and had a major role in developing a new curriculum. In 2019, she made a brief transfer to Emergis, the large mental health institution in Zeeland, to work there as a project leader. She led a variety of projects (including the implementation of the Compulsory Mental Health Care Act) and set up a projects office for Emergis. In 2020 she returned to HZ, now in the role of lecturer-researcher at the Expertise and Valorization Management knowledge center. From that role, she trains students, teachers and the field in working with the systems approach and social theory to find solutions to complex, social issues. Her broad background helps her and thus hopefully others to look at situations from different perspectives and thereby gain a better understanding of the whole.  +
Danny Janssen is a civil engineering professional specializing in hydraulic engineering. After completing his bachelor's degree at Rotterdam University of Applied Sciences and his master's at Delft University of Technology (TU Delft), he pursued doctoral research at TU Delft and the Netherlands Defence Academy. During his PhD, he conducted research on emergency measures that can be implemented in the event of incipient dike breaches, utilizing defense resources. This research involved physical experiments on three different scales. The experiments demonstrated that the tested prototype has significant potential to effectively prevent or delay actual (or imminent) dike breaches. In 2024, Danny joined the Asset Management research group at HZ University of Applied Sciences.  +
Driven from a young age with a keen interest in nature, Demian Zwaan graduated from Van Hall Larenstein University of Applied Sciences in Leeuwarden in 2020 on improving nutrient media for the macro-algae Chaetomorpha linum and Gracilariopsis longissima. Diana Korteweg Maris is project manager for the HZ Knowledge Center for Coastal Tourism and Centre of Expertise Leisure, Tourism & Hospitality. She completed her bachelor's degree in Tourism Management at NHTV in Breda in 2000 and has since worked as a project manager at the Brabants Bureau for Tourism and NHTV. Since 2008 she has been working for Knowledge Center Coastal Tourism, the first years from NHTV and since 2014 fully at the HZ. Her expertise lies mainly in facts and figures: measuring tourism and its impacts, both economically and socially. She likes to share these figures with policy makers, entrepreneurs, administrators, students and the press. "Always from the idea that you need knowledge to make the right choices for your business or an area." She works on studies on the demand side (who are our guests, how many guests come), on the supply side (how much supply do we have and how is this changing) and on the impact of tourism. An important theme here is how tourism can develop in balance with Zeeland's society and landscape. "A big challenge, because measuring that balance is a fairly new research topic."  +
Dylan received his bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the HZ in 2018. After a graduate internship at NIOZ, he stayed active in seaweed and started working as a researcher at research group Marine Biobased Chemistry. Initially, he did a lot of research mainly on seaweed sterols and how their production is influenced by the growing environment. For the ALGOL project, he worked on characterizing sterols in seaweed waste streams. He also worked on the chemical taste profiling of seaweed for the Valgorize project and was a project leader for the FUCOS project. In this, the pigment fucoxanthin from seaweed was applied in sustainable, bioactive cosmetics. In addition to his work as a researcher, he is involved in education. He gives weekly practical lessons to first-year chemistry students.  +
